Privacy Policy

CaptureReady is developed by Tyler Berlin. This policy explains what information CaptureReady uses, where it lives, and who — if anyone — it's shared with. In short: your data stays on your device and in your own private iCloud. There are no user accounts, no servers operated by us, and nothing is collected, sold, or shared.

Information CaptureReady Uses

CaptureReady uses the following data to power its features. None of it is transmitted to us or to any server we operate.

You can deny location, camera, or photo library access at any time in iOS Settings → CaptureReady. Some features (like local weather or map tagging) won't work without location access, but the rest of the app functions normally.

iCloud Sync

So that your gear, presets, saved locations, and journal aren't lost with a lost phone, CaptureReady backs them up to your own private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit. This keeps your content in sync across the devices signed in to your Apple Account.

Two things are worth being precise about:

• We cannot see any of it. The data goes into the private database of your personal iCloud account, which is accessible to you and not to the developer. We have no console, no export, and no ability to read, recover, or delete your content.
• It only happens if you're signed in to iCloud. If you aren't, CaptureReady stores everything locally instead and tells you so. You can see which is happening at any time in the app under More → Settings → Backup.

iCloud is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. To stop syncing, turn CaptureReady off under iCloud in iOS Settings.

The AI Camera Assistant

On supported iPhones, CaptureReady's camera assistant is powered by Apple Intelligence and runs entirely on your device. What you type about your shot, your gear, and your conditions is processed locally by Apple's on-device model. Nothing is sent to us, to Apple's servers, or to any third-party AI provider, and nothing is used to train any model.

On devices that don't support Apple Intelligence, the feature is hidden and the app calculates its recommendations with ordinary arithmetic instead.

Third-Party Services

CaptureReady uses the following third-party services strictly to fetch data the app displays to you:

• Apple Weather — provides live weather conditions for your location, via Apple's WeatherKit. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Open-Meteo — a free, no-API-key weather service CaptureReady falls back to if Apple Weather is temporarily unavailable. See Open-Meteo's terms.
• Apple Maps (MapKit) — powers location search and the Photography Map. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy above.

These requests include only the coordinates or search text needed to return a result (e.g., "what's the weather at this latitude/longitude"). No account, advertising, or analytics identifier is attached to these requests by CaptureReady.

The camera specification database CaptureReady uses to look up your gear is bundled inside the app. Searching it makes no network request of any kind.

What We Don't Do

• No user accounts, sign-in, or profile creation
• No analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, or advertising networks
• No selling, renting, or sharing your data with third parties for marketing
• No cross-app or cross-site tracking of any kind
• No servers operated by us, and therefore no copy of your data that we could access

Data Retention & Deletion

Deleting the app removes the copy stored on that device. If iCloud sync was on, a copy remains in your own iCloud account so it can return when you reinstall or set up a new device.

To remove that copy as well, go to iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage, select CaptureReady, and delete its data. Because it lives in your private database, that deletion is entirely in your hands; we have no ability to do it for you, and no way to retain a copy afterwards.

If you back up your device via iCloud Backup or Finder, CaptureReady data may also be included in that backup, subject to Apple's encryption and your own settings.

Children's Privacy

CaptureReady is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children, consistent with the fact that we do not collect personal information from any user.

Changes to This Policy

If CaptureReady's data practices change, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly. Material changes — anything that alters what leaves your device — will be described plainly here rather than buried.
